Cold noses and warm hearts

What a wonderful trip to the East Coast to visit friends. I loved seeing Joey interact with my best friend's children. I hope that they grow up knowing each other, and stay lifelong friends. I don't ever want to leave California and the close proximity of my family, however I loved so much about Connecticut that I could really see myself there. The feeling of being far from these great friends is only exacerbated when we do get together. Maybe in my next life, we'll finally have that cul-de-sac we always dreamt of. Clean crisp air, the smell of rain on asphalt. Pristine highways with 200 foot medians lined with oaks and maples. Rolled curbs and wide expansive lawns. Alright so the landscape designer in me was keen to notice these things. Neighborhood walks, a pumpkin patch, a farmhouse winery, a children's museum, baking and painting while it rains, a music class... What a fabulous trip!

Special weekend

We spent the weekend in Torrance with my Grandma; Joey's Great Grandma. I hadn't even realized it, but it was the three year anniversary of my Grandpa's passing. We woke up very early on Saturday and went to sunrise mass with her. My Grandpa went to church every morning at 6:00am. Afterward, we all went to McDonalds by the beach for coffee and apple pies (his favorite) with about a dozen of Grandpa's old church and McD's buddies. Joey brought so much joy and laughter to this group.

Later we relished the shade of the huge oak tree in my Grandma's backyard. It will be coming down next week as the roots are all encroaching the neighbor's homes. We picked pommegrantes, and tangerines, and waved to airplanes from the Torrance airport. It was a bittersweet moment as I looked around the huge yard that once was my backyard. I miss my Grandpa and I will miss the oak tree.

Blog post 1

It has taken me 11 months to post my first blog entry. This blog was to chronicle the first year of my son's life, and now he can climb over the back of the couch and pick his nose. The name of my blog came about after a dozen cute ideas that were already taken on blogspot. Jenn and I love hedgies (her coinage, not mine,) and Hedgehog Notes was available. I am not sure this blog will reach the pinnacle of blogging that Teach Me Tiger has, (I'm not anticipating contests,) but I will give it a go. Happy viewing fellow followers!
